Black Ivy is a stylish neighbourhood bar and restaurant, just five minutes from Edinburgh city centre, serving breakfast, brunch and Sunday roast.

The Conservatory Dining Room provides a touch of vintage elegance, with antique chandeliers and hanging plants. Look out for an entire floor made of nickel coins, which glisten and sparkle in the light!

The Outdoor Terrace is open all year round, where you can dine in the sunshine by day, or cosy up under the retractable roof and heaters during the evening.

Breakfast is served every day from 8am to 12pm. The Black Ivy Grills include a 'Full Scottish Skillet', with dry cured back bacon, pork sausages, roasted tomato, mushrooms, beans, potato scone, black pudding, haggis, toast and eggs cooked the way you like! Push the boat out with Steak and Eggs, a chargrilled rump steak served with free range fried eggs and hash browns.

Vegetarian and Vegan Breakfast Skillets are also available, including vegan sausages, smashed avocado and roasted tomatoes.

A full range of breakfast and brunch favourites are also on the menu, from buttermilk pancakes (sweet or savoury) to breakfast rolls and Black Ivy Bennys - poached eggs topped with hollandaise and your choice of toppings.

Upgrade your Brunch experience and enjoy Black Ivy's cocktail brunch accompanied with a Mimosa on arrival and three additional cocktails from the Brunch menu, including a French or espresso martini or an Aperol spritz. Start this delicious menu with freshly baked pastries with homemade preserve, cured meats, oatcakes, cheese and fresh fruit, followed by a Brunch dish.

Black Ivy Sunday Roasts are becoming an Edinburgh institution and are available from 12pm to 10pm every Sunday. Enjoy roast striploim of Scottish beef, chicken supreme or a vegan nut roast served with giant Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, roasted root vegetables, seasonal greens and a silky homemade gravy for only £21.

Although not every category gets a 5, overall this place is 5 star. Yes, it’s a little out of town if you’re visiting the main attractions, but that’s also one of its better points. It’s no tourist trap. The bar is phenomenal & staff and service are superb. We had both dinner & breakfast are all was good. Staff were super friendly & did all they could to accommodate requests. Rooms aren’t perfect - still don’t know why hotels assume a 50% width fixed shower screen works. They just don’t & ours spilled water everywhere. Clearly an ongoing fault as the floor grout was beginning to rot. Also (at the wife’s request) a toilet brush please! Overall though, a superb hotel for Edinburgh if you don’t mind the 15 min walk to get to Princes St/ Royal Mile etc.

Although the decor In this restaurant is undoubtedly beautiful and the location is great, on both occasions when I have been the food has just been okay. Not terrible. Just completely fine. The burger was a little bit bland. The chicken wings, although flavourful tasted too strongly of vinegar. The salt and chilli chips were lovely but not enough to carry the whole meal. If you were out for cocktails with friends or having a birthday meal I would still recommend it. The cocktail menu looked amazing and the interior is perfect for nice photos. There is also a nice outside seating area with heaters. Unfortunately the food itself, at least on the both occasions I've been has just been average.
